Forbes Library Children’s Program Space and HVAC Upgrades
This project renovated a portion of the lower level at Forbes Library to create a new dedicated program space for children’s arts, crafts, and activities, complemented by a comprehensive HVAC upgrade to improve overall building performance.
The design incorporates a custom suspended acoustic ceiling system, arranged in a sculptural pattern across the space, paired with integrated LED lighting to enhance both acoustics and visual interest. An illustrated mural along one wall provides a distinctive, age-appropriate backdrop for the room.
The layout was planned to support a range of programming needs, combining open floor area for group activities with dedicated functional zones, including a mobile art supply station and a utility sink for craft-related cleanup. Flexible furnishings and durable, low-maintenance finishes were selected to withstand frequent use while maintaining a welcoming atmosphere.
The completed space provides Forbes Library with a purpose-built environment for children’s programming, supporting the library’s broader mission of hands-on learning and community engagement.
